In the autumn of 2020, I assisted my parents in leaving the home they had shared for two decades. After the move, my mother and I returned several times to tidy up the remaining odds and ends. During the process of organizing, I collected four items: a kitchen cup, a stack of books from the living room, blankets and towels from the bedroom, and a small basin from the bathroom. These seemingly ordinary objects originated from the four spaces within our home where we spent the most time, embodying the easily overlooked memories and experiences of daily life. In early 2021, I was invited to participate in an online residency project at the Seto International Ceramic and Glass Art Exchange Program in Japan. Taking these four items as my starting point, I completed the "Apartment" series.
An object may eventually depart from us, but the imprints they leave behind in our lives continue to grow. Just like spring rain moistening the frozen soil, the dormant energy that has silently dwelled beneath, throughout the entire winter, is on the verge of sprouting.
2020年秋,我帮助父母搬离了一起生活了20年之久的家。在搬家之后,我和妈妈又回去了几次,收拾剩下的零碎物品。我在整理的过程中收集了四件旧物——厨房的水杯、客厅的书、卧室的一摞毯子和毛巾,还有一个浴室里的一个小盆子。这些平平无奇的物品来自我们家中里最常停留的四个空间,组成了日常生活中那些容易被忽视的记忆和体验。2021年初我受邀于日本濑户国际陶瓷与玻璃艺术中心做线上驻留项目,于是我以这四件物品为出发点,完成了《公寓》系列作品。
一件物品也许终将离我们而去,但它们曾经存在于我们生活中的印记却是一直在生长的。就像春雨湿润了冻僵的土壤,在我们看不到的地下沉寂了一整个冬季的能量即将萌发。
